Police investigate possible malfunction of C2000 when arresting aggressive man NOW

The police are investigating an incident in Eindhoven in which two officers asked for emergency assistance during the night from Saturday to Sunday, but were unable to get it because there was no connection in the radio network. A cop was slightly injured after being attacked by an aggressive suspect.

The man was enthralled in the back seat of the officers’ service car when he suddenly attacked a police officer. Although the agents made a call for emergency assistance through their two-way radios, they could not get a connection. In the end, the police officers were able to get the man under control.

The police say they are investigating the cause of the failure in the C2000 system. It is not the first time that there are problems with the new C2000 system. Since the new network was put into use in January by, among others, the police, fire brigade and ambulance services, there have been several reports of hitches.

The police management is “doing everything possible to solve these problems,” the management says in a response to the incident in Eindhoven. “Faltering of the C2000 system has major consequences for police officers, both for the performance of their duties and for their own safety.”

Police Works Council: C2000 hitches ‘unacceptable’

The Central Works Council (COR) of the police sent a fire letter at the end of February to minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) and chief of police Erik Akerboom about the faltering C2000 network.

“We know of examples of colleagues who asked for emergency assistance in connection with threatening situations and who had no contact with the emergency room. The radio is the lifeline for our colleagues. This is unacceptable for us,” writes the COR.
