Police injured after collision with unoccupied car on A79 road surface | NOW

A police car ran into a stationary car on the A79 between Heerlen and Maastricht on Saturday morning. One of the two officers was injured and taken to hospital, the law enforcement.

The police car was driving at the Hulsberg exit at 1.25 am when a stationary passenger car without lighting appeared in the middle of the road. They tried to avoid the car, but a collision could not be avoided. The police car ended up in the crash barrier.

One of the occupant officers is injured by ambulance to the hospital, it is unclear how he is doing.

There appeared to be no persons in the car. How the car ended up in the middle of the road is still being investigated. The A79 at Heerlen is temporarily closed for investigation and traffic is diverted.
