There was a crash of 46 kilometers before the finish of the first stage of the Tour de France 2021. There were fans near the road who cheered on the cyclists. One of the female fans was holding a cardboard banner. At one point, she turned her back on the oncoming cyclists because she wanted to show greetings to her grandparents on the camera. However, the German cyclist Tony Martin accosted the plaque. His fall caused a crash in which several dozen players participated.
The investigation into the crash was conducted by the military police in Landerneau. A woman whose behavior resulted in an accident may be charged with “unintentional bodily injury due to a breach of safety or precautionary obligations”. According to “L’Equipe”, she is facing up to a year in prison and a fine of 15,000. euro – if the most injured players submit a complaint by name.
The woman was elusive for several days. It was said unofficially that she could have fled to Germany. The French police informed via their Facebook profile that anyone who knew the woman’s whereabouts should contact the officers.
On Wednesday, the press agency “AFP” reported that the woman had been found. She is in police custody and is being questioned. She is accused of accidentally causing an accident.
On Tuesday, shortly after the start of the fourth stage, the cyclists participating in the Tour de France expressed their dissatisfaction with the numerous crashes and the lack of response from the organizers. The protest was that they stopped for a moment and then slowly cycled ten kilometers. Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck-Quick Step) won the fourth stage.
