The police have a problem. Now – more than five years after the attacks in Zaventem and Maalbeek – hundreds of ultramodern and expensive assault rifles have finally been delivered to the Belgian police. “To be able to fight criminals with equal weapons,” it sounded promising. Only: the supplier that would supply the special ammunition for the next seven years is withdrawing. “Now we have new weapons, we can’t even use them. How stupid”, says Joery Dehaes of ACV Police.

Everything revolves around the FN Scar 300-SC. A weapon of war by FN Herstal – so Belgian made. Cost: about 5,000 euros the piece. “These weapons came in the aftermath of the terror attacks in Zaventem and Maalbeek,” explains Joery Dehaes of ACV-Police. “Then they realized from above that it was necessary to rearm our police forces. So that the police could fight the criminals with equal weapons from now on.” To call a cat a cat: the current police machine guns – often Uzi’s – have been written off. More: the ammunition of those weapons does not get through a bulletproof vest or a war vest. So they don’t stop a heavily armed terrorist. The special ammunition of the FN Scar 300-SC can do this. This caliber is also used by American special forces.
