The Dutch police will send a message to 50,000 email addresses on Tuesday to warn that their passwords have been stolen. The police report this to her website.
The data was found in an investigation by the Belgian police. In the Netherlands, a suspect was arrested who is involved in a “cyber crime”. In the investigation, data carriers were seized and investigated. Among other things, 50,000 e-mail addresses and passwords were found.
A spokesperson for the East Netherlands police tells NU.nl that many of the login details can be traced back to Dutch web shops. That is why the police assume that a large part of the data comes from Dutch people.
The police sends emails to the addresses found. It explains why they receive the email. Recipients are advised to change their passwords.
The Dutch police is not involved in the investigation and is therefore unable to say what the case is.
