Over the past two weekends, various motorists saw stones lying on the N212 towards Wilnis, in the polder land between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The car of one of them has been severely damaged, police said, who are treating the cases as attempted manslaughter.
Fortunately, there were no injuries, but this dangerous situation could have turned out much worse, the police wrote.
In one case, on the night of August 30, three large tiles lay in the middle of the lane. Officers approaching the report saw a stone standing upright on the road and were able to stop just in time.
Careful
Friday night a man tried to make an emergency stop when he saw something. That did not work and he ran into one or more tiles, which seriously damaged his car.
The police advise road users to be extra careful and ask people to report if they have also seen stones on the N212 or if they have tips.
