At the end of July, our Black Sea coast was also filled with Bulgarian tourists. However, hoteliers and traders are of the opinion that there has not been such a weak summer season for 20 years. Even during the covid pandemic it was better. The reason is not that there are no people, but that they don’t spend much money.
The busiest are ice cream, corn, cotton candy and places where pizzas, burgers, pancakes, and donuts are sold. The vegetable and grocery stores are massively visited by both Ukrainians and Bulgarians.
Analysis from the stall
“I sell an average of 70 kg of potatoes a day. Do they fry them or boil them?! Tomatoes and cucumbers don’t suit me as much as potatoes. Bulgarians buy them the most. I don’t remember such a thing,” says a vegetable and fruit seller with surprise .
While the crowds outside these shops are huge, the pubs are empty. Some owners have even already laid off staff and are considering closing the shutters early. They already envy those who did not rent premises at all this summer and did not open.
On the way with a crate of tomatoes, meats, grill…
The native brought the Greek version of vacation to Bulgarian conditions as well. Residents of Rhodope say that they buy crates of tomatoes, cucumbers, fruits and potatoes from the vegetable markets. From the hyperchains they buy kebabs, meatballs and meat for steaks, lutenitsa, mineral water, beer, treats for the children. They bring gas grills and stoves, as well as pots, pans and other utensils. The grandmothers helpfully give a room for 6-7 BGN per person and with permission to cook.
“The conditions are not very good, but a week can be spent in any way”, say people from Rhodope.
“We’ve been going to an elderly woman in Kiten for a year. She allows us to cook for ourselves, and 7 BGN per bed per person is fine. There are three of us – we cook, we party in the evening in the yard under the asthma – barbecue, beer, wine, we also invite the grandmother. She is a widow. The sea is cheap for us, only the fuel is more expensive now. Why should we eat in expensive pubs and spend money where we don’t have it? Who knows what the hygiene is like in these establishments.” expressed the opinion of a woman from Rhodope, who for years has been choosing to spend her sea holidays with grandmother Koina in Kiten.
Our seaside resorts are also full of Bulgarians
Not all of them are on the “Crates with food” mode, others without a problem pay 386 BGN per person per day in Barovski and refined hotels.
They may bring food, but the selfies they post on social media exude sophistication and style. Typical of Bai Ganiovski – to be angry with others who are not at sea.
We failed to mention that pharmacies are also very popular. Covid, rotaviruses, everything is there. No one is wearing masks, nor are any measures being followed. People have come to party and relax. The misery they leave behind is on the beaches, the streets, everywhere. A mother peed her child on the central street on the sidewalk in Sunny Beach, where people pass by. When a remark was made to her, she replied: “When dogs pee, you don’t make remarks, it’s a big deal that I peed on my child.”
Our lovely native pictures can be seen in full force at our seaside resorts. We carry our simplicity everywhere, but it seems to be at the sea where it is most visible and gathered in one place.
So, if you have a little money set aside – fill the car with purchases from hyperchains on promotions, take the grill, pots and go to the sea, writes “24Smolyan”. There you will also find a grandmother who will give you accommodation for less than ten BGN per bed and don’t forget to break your fast from the beach with a frappe for which you regretted three BGN, but you will also anger the others who didn’t manage to go.
