Inhabitant Sri Lanka disagree with the nomination of the Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new president to replace Gotabaya Rajapaksa who resigned. Students and other groups in Sri Lanka are planning to hold a new rally to protest the nomination.
This latest protest plan emerged when local MPs were holding a meeting to finalize the candidates who would serve as Sri Lanka’s new president. So as reported ReutersTuesday (19/7/2022).
Wickremesinghe, who has served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for six terms, has been sworn in as Acting President or Interim President after massive protests in the Middle East. severe economic crisis forced Rajapaksa to flee to Singapore and resign from his post.

Demonstrators angered by skyrocketing prices and shortages of food and fuel also demanded Wickremesinghe step down from office.
Three candidates have been nominated on Tuesday (19/7) local time to replace Rajapaksa.
Sri Lanka’s parliament announced that Wickremesinghe will face former Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma who has the backing of the main opposition and leftist leader Anura Dissanayake in a secret vote on Wednesday.
Sri Lankan opposition leader Sajith Premadasa withdrew from his candidacy on Tuesday (19/7) local time, in favor of Alahapperuma’s candidacy.
“For the greater good for my country which I love and the people I care about, I hereby withdraw my candidacy for the position of president,” Premadasa said in a statement via Twitter.
