PlayStation 5: Why is it only backward compatible for PS4 games?

A video game developer explained the difficulties for which Sony confirmed the backward compatibility of the PlayStation 5 only on PS4 games

Sony confirmed a few days ago that the Playstation 5 will only be able to run the vast majority of games PS4. Thus they denied the rumors about the backward compatibility of the console in PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games. Why can’t this happen?

The PlayStation 5 will have its launch at late 2020 and there is a lot of expectation regarding the arrival of the new console. The backward compatibility of this new Sony console was on everyone’s lips in recent days.

Many players have wondered why the PlayStation 5 can only be backward compatible with PS4 games and not with those of PS3, PS2 and PS1. Part of that answer is explained by the technical director of Cradle Games, Marc-André Jutras.

“As a developer I can see where some legal stuff might get a little fuzzy, especially if the goal is for those old games to be sold in some stores. Some companies no longer exist and the licenses for those titles may not be easy to understand.. I also understand that older consoles may have some sort of Hardware DRM it could prevent newer consoles from reading older discs, “he explained.
