Temporary accommodation for 500 asylum seekers on Gulbergen, the municipality of Nuenen is investigating whether this is possible. The municipality is evaluating small-scale housing units that can last from a minimum of two to a maximum of ten years. This answers a question from the Brabant-Zuidoost security region.
Although the arrival of asylum seekers is not yet official, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way. “The stalled reception of the asylum is a national crisis,” said the municipality. “So speed is required.”
Furthermore, according to the municipality, it should not be difficult to accommodate 500 asylum seekers in Gulbergen in residential units. “We don’t have to reinvent the wheel, there are experiences from, for example, other municipalities and AOCs that we make a grateful use of. So exploration can proceed quickly.”
Crisis refuge and status holders
These are 500 asylum seekers or status holders or both who come to live on the Gulbergen estate. According to the Municipality, the following can be considered:
- welcoming Ukrainians,
- crisis reception of asylum seekers,
- housing for people who have already received a residence permit but are still awaiting a home, the so-called status holders.
They must be housed on the Gulbergen estate in the Nuenen Territory. Unsurprisingly, Gulbergen is now in the photo, the municipality says. Seven years ago, that place was already in the picture to house 1200 asylum seekers at the time. This time it is a maximum of 500 people. The idea is now to build small-scale residential units for them.
Temporary but perennial
The accommodation is temporary, but multi-year: according to the municipality of Nuenen, it will be a minimum of two and a maximum of ten years. If the reception lasts more than ten years, there is no longer temporary accommodation, but permanent accommodation.
It is still unclear when exactly construction can begin.
