Plácido Domingo recognizes abuse women after months of denial

Opera singer Plácido Domingo acknowledges that he has abused women. The Spanish singer has been accused for months of sexual misconduct by at least 27 female colleagues. He has always denied, but has now apologized for his misconduct.

In a statement, Domingo says to take full responsibility for his actions. “I have taken the time in recent months to think about the accusations against me by various colleagues,” he says.

“I respect that the women now feel able to speak out and they need to know that I sincerely regret the sorrow I have caused.”

He says that some women “found it hard to speak out because they feared it would harm their career. Although that was never my intention, no one should feel that way.”

From kissing to stalking

Research by the American Guild of Musical Artists, who represents opera singers, shows that the 79-year-old opera singer has sexually misbehaved in 27 women. That happened in a period of twenty years.

The accusations range from mouth kisses to handbags and nocturnal phone calls asking women to come to his house. He also invited women along in a way that some women experienced as stalking.

Some women felt pressured to enter into a sexual relationship with Domingo. He was the director of the Los Angeles Opera and had a lot of influence in the music world. He resigned in October after accusations of misconduct.

“Recent accusations in the press have created an atmosphere in which I can no longer work for the company where my heart is,” he said at the time. Since 2003 he has been at the helm of the opera house.
