Piraeus: Bomb explosion in a parking lot next to a gas station – What the Authorities are investigating (Videos) – 2024-03-09 15:54:10

An alarm was sounded early Friday morning in Piraeus, as a bomb exploded in a parking lot next to a gas station, causing damage to cars and adjacent buildings.

The explosion occurred at 3 am on Omiridou Skylitsi Street and, according to ERT, the explosion was heard several kilometers away. According to the information so far, no injuries have been reported. The shock wave was heard almost throughout Piraeus, while pieces of debris were found 30 meters away from the gas station.

“Because I’m a late sleeper, at 3:15 there was a big noise, windows were opened, glass was broken and there was a smell of gunpowder. The whole apartment building went down, and our car was completely destroyed. A month ago we heard gunshots, I don’t know if it has anything to do with it. I don’t know who will compensate us”a local resident told Mega.

Men from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department rushed to the scene investigating the remains of the bomb, with the aim of locating more evidence.

The authorities are investigating whether the bombing was carried out in the context of settling accounts.

The scenario that the bomb was intended for someone who had parked in the area is also being considered, according to Mega.

EL.AS is collecting testimonies from residents who reported that shots had been fired in the neighborhood about a month ago from a passing vehicle.

At the same time, a short time after the explosion, a dark car without license plates was spotted on the Kalyftaki bridge, which the authorities pursued as it did not stop at a traffic light. The Police are examining whether the event in question is connected to the incident in Piraeus.
