Photos: Texas senator ‘escapes’ to Mexico amid cold snap

In Texas, they accuse Republican Senator Ted Cruz of “escaping” from the inclement cold and unprecedented blackouts in his state to go on vacation to Mexico.

Photos widely shared on social media Wednesday show Ted Cruz and his family on a flight to the resort town of Cancun, Mexico. Texans criticized the senator for “fleeing” the state, when its inhabitants desperately suffer from the cold weather, and called for his resignation.

“They cut off the electricity and water supply in my grandparents’ house. My mother, employed in a restaurant, does not have a job and is not paid. My brother, who is not in good physical condition, is on the waiting list for the vaccine (against coronavirus), and my state senator is in Cancun. Ted Cruz resigns”Said a Texas resident.

Despite having confirmed the controversial trip, so far, Cruz has not made any statement.

Various parts of the United States are experiencing historically low temperatures, which, in the case of Texas, must add immense pressure against the electrical infrastructure leading to a failure in the local grid. Most of the deaths attributed to the winter storm have been in Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and Missouri. In Texas, particularly, about 23 deaths have been reported as a result of severe weather across the country.

Anger against the Republican senator continues to rise at his lack of empathy and negligence in the performance of his duty as a senator. “It appears that Cruz believes he does not have much to do in Texas for the millions of fellow Texans who remain without electricity or water and are literally freezing,” wrote a freelance journalist on Twitter.
