Philippe, hairdresser, gives up taking vacation to save his salon: “We are really limited”

The situation is complicated for hairdressers who have been able to resume their activities. The salons have been welcoming customers for more than a month, but they are still far from having recovered their turnover before the coronavirus crisis.

“We had to remove places and we can only take one person per hairdresser. We can’t have anyone patient in the living room so we count 30% fewer customers per day. It still poses a problem“, explained Philippe Sculier, manager of a hair salon.

It is not the fear of coming to have your hair done that prevents customers from coming, but the new rules…In the sector, activity is down. “Normally, the activity rate is very high. He was from 85% before the crisis. Since the end of the crisis, therefore since the time when the salons were able to reopen, the rate has increased to 65-75% so we see that we still have room“, said Hugues Thibaut, consultant SD Worx.

Some hairdressers have decided not to take vacations in an attempt to compensate for this drop in activity. But Philippe is pessimistic. “We are really limited. If there are a lot of people going on vacation and we still have a trough, then it will be hard to be profitable. I don’t want it, but I think we’re going toto have“, said the manager.

The rules on physical distances, wearing a mask and services by appointment only, will remain in force until at least September.
