Pharmacist from Doubs Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Defrauding CPAM of Over 600,000 Euros

A pharmacist from Doubs was sentenced to three years in prison, two of which were suspended, for defrauding the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) of more than 600,000 euros. This money was used to finance real estate purchases.

The Morteau pharmacist admitted to having continued to bill, without their knowledge, the treatment of six patients to Social Security without issuing medication (symbolic image).

The merchant from Morteau, near the Swiss border, was convicted of aggravated fraud to the detriment of an organization responsible for a public service mission by the Besançon criminal court, prosecutor Etienne Manteaux told AFP on Thursday.

Tried on prior admission of guilt, the 50-year-old man was also ordered on Wednesday to compensate the CPAM and pay 30,000 euros in fines.

The pharmacist admitted to having continued to invoice, without their knowledge, the treatment of six patients to Social Security without dispensing medicines between 2017 and 2022, for an amount of 617,181 euros, in order to finance real estate purchases.

Three apartments were confiscated: in Val d’Isère, in Fréjus and in Morteau, as well as a vehicle worth 50,000 euros and life insurance, in order to compensate the CPAM du Doubs.

The investigation, carried out by the anti-fraud unit of the Doubs gendarmerie, began with a report to the CPAM prosecutor’s office following a suspicion of fraud.
