Pfizer foresees a return to “normal life” in a year thanks to vaccines – Prensa Libre

The CEO of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, Albert Bourla, predicted this Sunday that in “one year” “normal life” will return after the covid-19 pandemic, although he considered it likely that it will be necessary to be vaccinated “annually” against the disease.

This was indicated by Bourla, whose pharmaceutical company has developed together with BioNTech one of the vaccines that have shown efficacy against covid-19.

“In a year, I think we will be able to return to normal life,” he said in an interview on ABC television.

Bourla said that this does not mean that there are no new variants, but that the vaccines will allow to control the spread of the virus.

In his opinion, the “most likely” scenario, given that the virus is “spread throughout the world”, is that there are these new variants and, therefore, people will have to “get vaccinated annually” again.

Precisely, this Friday the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, in English) gave the green light to the third dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine for those over 65 and people at risk.

As a result, this third dose could be available to these groups, numbering millions of Americans, in the coming days.

Currently, 64.6% of the US population over 12 years of age is vaccinated with the double guideline, although the rate of inoculation has slowed in recent months, which has raised concern among health authorities.

The Government of the US President, Joe Biden, had defended that the third dose of Pfizer be administered to the entire population over 16 years of age, something that the health authorities rejected for lack of more data.

Pfizer / BioNTech’s is the only vaccine that is fully approved for use by US regulators, as the other two available, Moderna’s double-dose and Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose, They have emergency authorization.
