Baby Born with Rare Congenital Condition Causes Shock and Hope for Family

Baby Armani Melby was born via emergency caesarean section at 33 weeks, after she was diagnosed with a severe form of lymphangioma, which caused her to be born with huge chest and arms.

The Sun website said that the rare congenital health condition causes non-cancerous, fluid-filled growths in the lymph vessels. This condition made the little girl look like a young bodybuilder.

The girl’s mother, in turn, said: “When I saw her, I cried because I was shocked. But I didn’t care about her appearance. I loved her anyway.”

The baby girl’s size was three times the size of a normal baby.

After struggling through her pregnancy, Chelsea discovered that her daughter had lymphangioma after an ultrasound scan at 17 weeks.

Doctors suspected there might be fluid around her heart and possible breathing or vision problems in the future, but the family held out hope for the unborn girl.

After Armani was born, the family moved to a specialized hospital for three months, and the girl began her journey to recovery.

Fortunately, Armani’s condition is now thought to be treatable with surgery. Large amounts of excess fluids were removed from her body.

The baby is scheduled to undergo surgery later this year, where doctors will extract additional lymph vessels to help shrink her body, and she will then need surgery to remove the remaining skin. (lbci)
