When confirmed, the Deputy Head of SKK Migas, Nanang Abdul Manaf, admitted that his party had indeed received documents for the development of the Rokan Block through the adoption of advanced oil extraction technology.

“The PoD proposal for Chemical EOR was only sent last Monday afternoon,” said Nanang at the SKK Migas office, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 15 2023.

Regarding the next steps from SKK Migas regarding the PoD application for the Chemical EOR, Nanang said that his party was still evaluating the plan submitted by PHR.

“We still do review “through the Deputy for Exploration, Development and Work Area Management team,” he said.

For your information, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a method applied to increase hydrocarbon production from oil reservoirs, if the method primary recovery and secondary recovery it is no longer efficient to drain oil. Specifically, EOR drains oil by injecting special materials or fluids from outside the reservoir, such as mechanical, chemical and thermic energy.

Pertamina itself has previously opened up opportunities for collaboration to develop chemical EOR, which will be used to increase production at the Rokan WK. Pertamina’s Managing Director, Nicke Widyawati, said that until the process of transferring management of the Rokan WK was completed, the EOR chemical formula owned by Chevron Pacific Indonesia could not be proven to be part of cost recovery.

Until now, continued Nicke, Pertamina is still in talks to collaborate with Chevron Oronite, which is a subsidiary of Chevron which holds the EOR chemical formula.

“We just have to calculate the economics. So we are still open to using it. However, in parallel because we see that we can also open with other companies that are also interested in proof of concept chemical “EOR in Rokan, because it’s very interesting,” he said.
