Freiburg (dpa) – Former EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger becomes a curator at the Freiburg think tank Center for European Politics (CEP). “With Günther Oettinger, a profound and experienced connoisseur of the EU and its institutions is strengthening our ranks,” CEO Lüder Gerken is quoted in a statement on Thursday. The CEP is pleased to receive new impulses and insights for its work through Oettinger.
The Center for European Politics describes itself as a “think tank”, which provides the general public with up-to-date information and a comprehensive background knowledge of EU policy projects. According to its own statements, it is committed to a policy that is oriented towards freedom and a market economy.
Other members of the Board of Trustees are the former EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein, the former Ponce finance minister Leszek Balcerowicz, the former chief economist of the European Central Bank, Jürgen Stark, the former co-editor of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, Holger Steltzner, and the former federal constitutional judge Udo Di Fabio .
From 2010 to 2019, the former Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg was EU Commissioner in Brussels, initially responsible for energy (until 2014), then for digital (until 2016), and finally for budget planning. He now works as an independent economic and political consultant.
