The United States space agency, NASA, named the Perseids as meteor Rain the best this year and will begin to appear since July 14 yesterday.
This meteor shower will continue until August 24. While the peak of this meteor shower will occur on 11, 12 and 13 August. The number of Perseids meteors will increase gradually until finally approaching peak time.
The Perseids are popular for their spectacular fireball brightness potential. Because, the Perseids is one of the meteor showers with the most number of meteors falling per hour. At least, there are 50 to 100 meteors will be seen every hour.
Perseid meteors tend to strengthen in numbers late into the night. Meteor showers usually produce the most meteors late at night before dawn.
This meteor shower occurs as a result of the trail of comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. According to NASA, this comet orbits the Sun once every 133 years.
This comet is 16 miles across, or twice the size of the space object that hit Earth and wiped out the dinosaurs. The name Perseid itself was given because the direction of the meteor shower that appeared at night was in the constellation Perseus or the Hero.
Quoted CNetMeteors are generally fireballs, which are formed when larger pieces of comet debris hit the atmosphere, creating long, bright streaks.
Launch Earth Sky, the Perseid meteor has a fairly high brightness level. So, sky watchers can see more than 50 meteors at the peak, even when the Moon is bright.
The Perseid meteoroids are moving fast. The meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere and was then called a meteor at a speed of about 133,200 mph or 60 kilometers per second.
The Perseed meteor shower can be seen without any tools. However, observations should be made in a place that is not exposed to light pollution.
It takes about 30 minutes for the eyes to adjust to the darkness. The longer, the more likely the eye will catch some Perseid meteors.
