Perseid Meteor Shower Can Be Enjoyed 12

“This meteor shower can be witnessed without any tools, as long as the weather is clear, the field of view is free from obstructions and the sky quality is clean enough,” said Andi, Monday (9/8/2021).

Andi said the meteor shower phenomenon would be visible to the naked eye if there was no light pollution.

The Perseid meteor shower is active from July 17 to August 24 every year. The meteor shower comes from the dust remnants of comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.

The public can watch the meteor shower from the north-northwest to the north, starting at midnight local time until 20 minutes before sunrise.

In addition to the Perseid meteor shower, he said, there are several other astronomical phenomena occurring in August 2021.

On August 9, 2021, the triple moon-mercury-regulus conjunction occurs. This phenomenon can be seen from the west-northwest direction about 20 minutes after sunset for 12 minutes.

On August 10, 2021, there is a mars-moon conjunction phenomenon that can be seen from the west-northwest direction about 20 minutes after sunset for 50 minutes.

On August 11, 2021, the lunar-venus conjunction occurs and can be observed from the west about 20 minutes after sunset for two hours.

Meanwhile, on August 15, 2021, there will be an early new moon phase. The peak of the moon phase begins when the sun, earth and moon form a right angle or 90 degrees. The peak of the initial new phase occurred at 22.20 WIB.
