Perpetrator of beheading France asked students to identify victims | NOW

The 18-year-old man suspected of stabbing and decapitating a teacher in a Paris suburb had asked students on the street to appoint the teacher prior to the incident. The French public prosecutor for terrorism cases reports this on Saturday. The suspect was not known to security services.

After the beheading, the 18-year-old man from Russia had posted a photo of the victim’s body with a message claiming responsibility on Twitter.

When officers shot the suspect, they found this message on his phone. Twitter quickly removed this message and closed the man’s account.

The 47-year-old victim was stabbed and beheaded on Friday in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, northwest of Paris. The man was a secondary school teacher. During a lesson on freedom of expression, he had shown cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, to the anger of some Muslim parents of students.

Currently nine people are arrested

The police currently has nine people in custody. Four of the nine were arrested shortly after the incident, the rest in the night from Friday to Saturday. Some of the detainees are family members of the suspect.

One of the nine persons is the father of one of the students in the teacher’s class. After the lesson on freedom of expression, this father had recorded a series of videos in which he demanded, among other things, that the teacher be fired.
