The court in Pleven left permanently in custody the woman who was brought to criminal responsibility for the premeditated murder of her child in the village of Lazarovo, Kneja municipality. This was announced by the press center of the Judicial Chamber.
The 22-year-old woman was arrested on January 6 for the murder of her nine-month-old daughter. The child was declared wanted on December 23, 2021, and a month earlier the grandfather reported to the police that he had disappeared.
In the grounds of its judgment, the Court noted that, even at this initial stage of the pre-trial proceedings, the evidence in the case was sufficient to establish a reasonable presumption as to the authorship of the crime. The accused made detailed confessions in the course of the pre-trial proceedings, the press release states.
The proceedings are for a serious intentional crime, for which the law provides for a sentence of 15 to 20 years in prison, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without parole.
“The investigation is at a very early stage and it will be necessary to carry out procedural and investigative actions, with the participation of the accused, to unequivocally establish the mechanism of the crime, which is extremely high public danger. This risks hiding or committing a crime aimed at thwarting the investigation “, added the Court in Pleven.
The definition of the permanent measure of restraint “detention in custody” is not final. It can be appealed and protested before the Court of Appeal – Veliko Tarnovo within three days from today.
