PepsiCo will receive in the fourth quarter the first Tesla electric trucks out of the 100 ordered in 2017

PepsiCo will receive in the fourth quarter the first Tesla electric trucks out of the 100 ordered in 2017, the group’s general manager, Ramon Laguarta, said on Monday in an interview given to CNBC, News.ro reports.

The manufacturer of Mountain Dew and Doritos chips has reserved 100 Tesla Semi electric trucks to reduce fuel costs and fleet emissions.

Transportation accounts for 10 percent of PepsiCo’s gas emissions, Laguarta said. The company has previously stated that it wants to use the trucks to transport snacks and drinks between production and distribution centers, as well as to retailers.

PepsiCo and Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

Walmart, fleet operator JB Hunt Transport Services and food distributor Sysco have also placed orders for Tesla’s Semi trucks.

Last month, car rental company Hertz announced it would order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by the end of 2022.
