MADRID – The originally French supermarket chain Carrefour has a special discount card for over-65s in Spain called ‘Tarjeta 65+’. With this special card, shopping at the Carrefour is much cheaper than at other supermarkets because you do not have to pay IVA (VAT) on fresh products such as meat, fish, bread, pastries, vegetables, fruit, sausage and cheese, eggs and prepared meals . Since January 1, the Spanish government has reduced the IVA (VAT) on basic foodstuffs such as bread, bread flour, milk, cheese, eggs, fruits, vegetables, legumes, potatoes and breakfast cereals from 4% to 0%. Discount card Carrefour
The Carrefour supermarket has had a special one for some time now ‘Card 65+’ which is therefore a discount pass for people over 65. With this discount card, people over 65 receive a discount immediately upon checkout, because they do not have to pay VAT (IVA) on fresh products such as meat, fish, bread, pastries, vegetables, fruit, sausage and cheese, eggs and prepared meals .
Now this VAT has already expired due to the measures taken by the government to reduce it from 4% to 0%, but that is for a period of six months and it is still uncertain whether this will also be the case after June.

How to apply and use
First you have to be a member of ‘Club Carrefour’, which is free. After that you can request the ‘tarjeta 65+’ in any Carrefour store. If you then go shopping at the Carrefour, you must show your personal ‘Tarjeta 65+’ at checkout, after which the discount will be applied to the items that you receive a discount on with this card.
