Jean Renoir, the son of the Impressionist painter, is one of the film directors for whom I have a predilection. He is the author of an extensive filmography with lofty titles such as “The rule of the game”, “The great illusion” or “A field game.”
Renoir was a soldier in World War I, married a model, and decided to pursue cinema when he saw a Stroheim film. There is an extraordinary painting by Renoir Sr. in which he paints Gabrielle, his wife, playing with Jean, little more than a baby.
