Peacock invasion in Los Angeles leaves local residents in despair

Nice to look at, just stupid to listen to

While some people in this country pay money to see a peacock up close, some residents of Los Angeles can no longer see the animals. Because of the corona pandemic, the birds had enough time to reproduce undisturbed and expand their habitat. It’s just stupid that they share it with people who are only annoyed by the screeching of the giant birds.

“They sound like babies being tormented by a microphone”

And it’s not just about noise: They destroy front gardens, leave their dirt everywhere and also like to attack cars because the peacocks feel threatened by their own reflection. A painted car door has little chance against the sharp beak of the bird.

City regulates the handling of the birds

That wouldn’t be a problem, because peacocks usually don’t stay in the same place for too long – unless they are fed. That’s why the birds seem to feel so good right now – and the residents all the worse. Feeding the animals is therefore soon a criminal offense: Feeding a peacock can cost the equivalent of up to 850 euros, repeat offenders face up to six months in prison.

Self-proclaimed peacock whisperer is supposed to remedy the situation

Jonathan Gonzales is the man charged with helping Los Angeles residents with this problem. Apparently he can communicate with the animals. At first, this seems a bit strange to outsiders – but it seems to work. In the interview with him, however, a resident has a very clear opinion about the peacock whisperer, which is not exactly positive. You can find out what she said in the video. (msc)
