“The alignment of the planets”, noted last March by a representative of the European Central Bank at the France Payments Forum, is confirmed. The official launch of the European interbank project EPI (European Payments Initiative, ex-Pepsi) is coming very soon. According to our information, it will be announced this week, the date of July 2 being most often mentioned.
Randomly on the calendar, this project matures in the midst of the Wirecard scandal. This gives more credibility to a pan-European project carried by the banks which historically insured the entire payment chain, before leaving whole sections of the business to new players.
