NIJMEGEN –
Students pay to go into quarantine to stop the virus from spreading. That is an idea of the Nijmegen department of the Koninklijke Horeca Nederland. The plan will be presented to Mayor Hubert Bruls this Tuesday.

The Nijmegen department of KHN is concerned about possible tightening of the measures now that the number of infections in Nijmegen has been increasing for days. Monday there were more than 50 new cases in the Waalstad.
Chairman Dennis Dekkers does not hope that the measures that apply in the west of the country will also apply in Nijmegen. For example, cafes in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region have to close at 1 a.m.
If the number of infections continues to increase, Dekkers does not want to adjust the closing times for the catering industry. He does, however, want to contribute ideas to reduce the number of infections. For example, by paying students when they go into quarantine.
‘Financing a piece’
“Can’t we make an arrangement for students, whereby students go into home isolation for two or three weeks. If the student would go along with that, I would like to finance some of that”, says Dekkers.
According to the chairman, the students have had a really hard time recently. “The first jobs that were quit were the student jobs. They’re at home, they missed the graduation parties and introduction weeks. I really sympathize with them.”
Incidentally, it is not yet known how many of the infected people are students.
