Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Mathias Pogba, brother of Paul Pogba, Italian club Juventus, has been placed in temporary detention by a court in the French capital, Paris, as part of an investigation into extortion charges?
Yassin Bozrou, Mathias Pogba’s attorney, told CNN that his client, Mathias, had been jailed since last Saturday night, explaining that he would work to get him out, saying, “We will appeal this decision and ask for his. release”.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed to CNN that Mathias Pogba has been placed in temporary detention.
French international Paul Pogba filed an extortion lawsuit against his brother last month, according to a statement obtained by CNN from his legal team.
Paul Pogba’s statement comes after his brother (Mathias) posted videos on Instagram in English, French, Spanish and Italian, in which he claimed he would reveal many facts about his brother’s behavior, and his agent, the Brazilian lawyer. The statement added: “I reported the facts to the Italian and French police a month ago and there will be no further comments on the ongoing investigations.”
Last August, Mathias responded to previous investigation reports, tweeting, saying, “What I’ve been waiting for has happened: my little brother has finally started to show his true face.” He also denied the charges against him.
In August, a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office told CNN that an investigation into an organized gang accused of extortion had been launched that month, while Italian police confirmed to CNN that they were not investigating the allegations.
It should be noted that Paul Pogba, 29, who returned to Juventus last July, after 6 years at Manchester United in the English Premier League, had won the world title with France in 2018.
