Patriarch Bartholomew will hold a liturgy in Kiev

Bartholomew will come to Ukraine for the first time in 13 years

The Ecumenical Patriarch will arrive in Ukraine on the eve of Independence Day – this is his first visit in 13 years.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, together with Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kiev and All Ukraine, will lead the liturgy in Hagia Sophia on August 22, reported press service of the Kiev Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Saturday, August 14.

“On Sunday, August 22, 2021, a solemn Divine Liturgy will be held in the open air on the territory of the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kiev, which will be led by two primates – the All-Holy Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kiev and All Ukraine,” the message says.

The service will begin at 09:00.

The clergy and believers are asked to consider the security measures that will be implemented.

The day before, a solemn meeting and prayer of thanks to Bartholomew will take place in the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral on the occasion of his arrival in Ukraine.

The last time the patriarch was in Ukraine was 13 years ago.

Recall that last fall, President Vladimir Zelensky meets with Patriarch Bartholomew in the Stambul.
