“Parties” at the origin of 16 new cases of COVID-19 in Quebec | News | The sun

Che 16 cases were confirmed over the weekend, so everything would suggest that the gatherings took place during the last week, according to Mathieu Boivin, spokesperson for the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale.

Mr. Boivin ensures that the epidemiological investigation was triggered within 24 hours of the first case detected. “Whenever there is a positive case, we talk to that person and ask them who they’ve been in contact with.”

The forty people who have been in contact with the infected have been screened, confirms the spokesperson.

On Monday, there were 20 new positive cases, 16 of which were linked to community transmission. These 16 cases are therefore linked to these two private gatherings.

Raise awareness among young people

At the start of the week, Quebec launched a campaign to educate young people about wearing masks and about health and social distancing measures. This campaign was deployed in the media and on social networks.

Since deconfinement, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale has noticed an increase in transmission among young people. “Whether they are swimming pool parties or other, gatherings remain important vectors of COVID-19”, recalls Mr. Boivin.

On Wednesday, the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale invited young people to respect health measures. In a press release, Jacques Girard, medical assistant to the public health director of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, recalls the risks of contracting the virus. “Unfortunately, COVID-19 does not mix well with parties and can have huge consequences on the life of a teenager and those close to him. Nobody wants to lose their taste or smell, to go without going out, to cancel their vacations or even to lose their summer job due to carelessness. ”

Mr. Girard also invites “all relatives and friends to discuss today these risks and important impacts in their life and that of their family”.
