Participating in Antibody Tests After Corona Vaccine, Do You Know the Standards?

Jakarta

Related to the rampant trends antibody test after the COVID-19 vaccine, experts emphasized that there is no need to bother doing it yourself, because measuring the body’s immune system response is not as simple as imagined. Wrong, it actually makes you panic because you don’t really understand how the results are interpreted.

“Regardless of the value, if antibodies appear, it means that the body responds naturally and naturally to vaccination,” said clinical pathologist at Sebelas Maret University, Dr. Tonang Dwi Ardyanto, SpPK, PhD, FISQua on detikcom, Saturday (22/5/2021).

Scientists have actually tested the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine in clinical trials. The vaccines currently circulating have gone through all of that and are scientifically proven to provide benefits.

According to Dr. Tonang, clinical trials the COVID-19 vaccine generally it has only lasted about 1 year. In this limited time, clinical trials have proven immunogenicity to detect the formation of antibodies and primary endpoints to prevent illness.

Why don’t you need to do an antibody test yourself?

Let alone ordinary people, even scientists do not yet know exactly how many antibodies are needed to create the greatest protection from COVID-19 infection. That way, whatever the results obtained from the post-COVID-19 vaccination antibody test actually do not necessarily represent optimally the body’s ability to protect against the Corona virus.

The Ministry of Health’s report shows the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine by 13 percent after injection of the first dose. Meanwhile, 28 days after the second injection, it was proven to be able to prevent COVID-10 with major symptoms by up to 94 percent. This figure is the result of an analysis of health workers who have received the Sinovac vaccine, using secondary data.

“Unfortunately, in the Ministry of Health’s report, how many antibodies are not yet reached. As far as I know, research on antibodies after vaccination in Indonesia is still ongoing at this time,” added Dr. Tonang.

He emphasized that the body’s neutralizing power against viruses is not only determined by antibodies, but is more complex. Scientists have done it in clinical trials, and continue to evaluate its effectiveness when used in real life. The community does not need to hesitate to take part in the COVID-19 vaccination program as the schedule has been set.

“So for now, the important thing is that we vaccinate first. Even if we want to measure antibodies, we still have to understand that there is no minimum target standard yet,” concluded Dr. Tonang.
