Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The city of Paris was gripping. Demonstrations that led to anarchism took place in the country on Saturday (5/12/2020) night and caused damage to several sides of the city.
The mob of anarchists threw projectiles at riot police. They also smashed shop windows, burned cars and barricades during demonstrations in the capital.
Quoting ReutersOn Sunday (6/12/2020) the anarchist group also ransacked a bank branch, throwing piles of documents into the fire outside. Police fired back tear gas and repeatedly accused the group of troublemakers.
This marked the second consecutive weekend of unrest in Paris, sparked by a recent episode of police brutality and President Emmanuel Macron’s Security Bill (Ruu). According to the demonstrators this will limit civil liberties.
Demonstrations also took place in Marseille, Lyon, Lille and other French cities.
Initially the demonstration was peaceful. Demonstrators chanted “France, land for police rights” and “Repeal of the security laws”.
However, the anarchist group called “Black Bloc” intervened. Paris police said that about 500 rioters had infiltrated the demonstration, of which 30 have been arrested.
France has been hit by a wave of street protests after the government introduced a security law in parliament aimed at improving surveillance tools and limiting the right to circulate images of police officers online.
The bill is part of Macron’s efforts to be more strict on law and order ahead of the 2022 general election. His government also says police need to be better protected from online hate.
