Good news for bars and restaurants, less so for local residents? On the occasion of the launch of the “Paris celebrates its bistros” event, the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo (PS) announced that it wanted to extend the opening of ephemeral terraces until midnight during the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.
An argument for remaining open
Established since the Covid-19 crisis, the ephemeral terraces take place every spring, from April 1 to October 31. But to limit the noise, these had to be folded from 10 p.m.
The exemption, which would run from July 26 to August 11, would then allow restaurateurs to obtain two additional hours of exercise. A measure which could then convince to stay open at a time when it is usually difficult to find a bar or restaurant that does not have the curtain down for annual holidays. In 2023, the City of Paris authorized the opening of 4,000 summer terraces.
