The State Crisis Coordination Office (SDCC) announced at a press conference that new, stricter rules will come into force on December 27 to limit the spread of the COVID variant Omicron. At present, 365 cases of the new variant have already been confirmed in Austria.

The head of the SDKK, Katarina Reich, announced that the establishments would close at 10 pm on December 27. This also applies to December 31. It is recommended that family holidays be in a small circle and that those present be vaccinated, healed or tested.

The United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands are defined as at-risk countries, which means that only people with three vaccines and an additional PCR test can enter Austria. All other entrants are subject to mandatory quarantine.

Due to the high virulence of the Omicron option, the expected increase in the number of newly infected and related supply difficulties, the provinces are already discussing crisis plans, which include mobilizing retired hospital staff, optimizing retail and police activities.
