Pandemic: Spain revises its balance sheet down: nearly 2,000 fewer deaths

The Spanish government revised the balance sheet of the pandemic in one of the most bereaved countries in the world on Monday, reducing it to 26,834 dead, 1,918 less than the day before.

New tracking system “cleans up duplicates, confirms coronavirus data and eliminates (dead) wrongly attributed to it,” said the director of the Minister of Health’s Alert Center Health, Fernando Simon.

On Sunday, Spain released 28,752 people dead.

“A variation of 1,900 is a lot, we are trying to verify that it is correct, but these are the figures we currently have,” continued Dr. Simon.

The ministry, which depends on data communicated by the regions which are responsible for Health, has also revised down the number of confirmed cases: 235,400 against 235,772 recorded on Sunday.

“We are pleased with the increasing quality of information that enables us to make decisions,” said Dr. Simon.

“This is something that happens in all epidemics, when the evolution of the epidemic gives us a little more time, we have to correct the figures and in some cases we have to reduce them,” he said. further explained.
