The United States’ peace plan for the Middle East has caused outrage among the Palestinians. Now her President Mahmoud Abbas has announced a radical step.
Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has “cut off all relations” with Israel and the United States announced. Abbas announced this in Cairo on Saturday ahead of an Arab League emergency meeting. Abbas now said the Palestinian Authority would break “all ties” with Israel and the US in the security area as well. “Realistic two-state solution”
Trump had his long-awaited Middle East plan on Tuesday in the presence of Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented in Washington. According to Trump, the plan should enable a “realistic two-state solution”. It would therefore be envisaged Jerusalem as the “undivided capital” of Israel. According to the plan, the Palestinians should be given the opportunity to found their own state, the capital of which would be Abu Dis, a suburb of East Jerusalem.
The Palestinian leadership promptly rejected Trump’s Middle East plan and called for a “day of anger” on Friday. But ultimately there were only occasional clashes and strikes. Rockets and explosive balloons flew out of the Gaza strip to Israel, but both had previously existed.
“Demilitarized” Palestinian State
The new American plan speaks of a “demilitarized” Palestinian state. The Israeli settlements in the West Bank with around 430,000 settlers and the Jordan Valley are to be annexed by Israel. The Palestinians should be offered several Arab sites in Israel, among other things, to equalize the area.
Israel had conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem, among others, during the Six Day War. The United Nations classifies the areas as occupied. Israel has withdrawn from the Gaza Strip, which was also conquered at the time. The Palestinians want to declare an independent state with the capital East Jerusalem in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
