Pakistan Stock Exchange attacked by gunmen

Armed men attacked the stock exchange in Karachi in Pakistan. Four attackers have been killed by the police, local police say to Reuters. It is not yet known whether more are involved in the attack.

There would have been a grenade attack at the entrance, and there was also shot. According to correspondent Aletta André, they came into the building a bit, but the police were able to stop them there. There is a lot of security around the building, which is in the financial heart of the country. There are also many private bank headquarters in the stock exchange.

Two guards and an agent were killed in the terrorist attack, and at least five injured were taken to hospital. Social media shows images of people who are bleeding on the street.

Local media say the attack was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist group listed as a terrorist organization in Pakistan. “The group has previously attacked a port in their region and the Chinese consulate,” says André.

Food was found on the attackers’ bodies, which would indicate that the attackers planned to stay in the building for a long time, a police officer told AP news agency.

The fight seems to be over, but the police are still wary, correspondent André says in it NOS Radio 1 News. “They are going through the entire building now to empty it and bring all employees to safety. Buildings in the area are also monitored extra.”
