Padua, 83 year old falls to the floor at home and is bitten by five of her seven dogs: her arms are amputated in hospital

An elderly woman was attacked at home on Saturday by five of her seven large dogs, Molossers, resulting in the amputation of her entire right upper limb and left forearm in hospital. The incident happened in Mortise (Padua) where the carabinieri intervened to save the 83-year-old woman.

The soldiers reached the interior of the apartment on the first floor of the building and, after having removed the animals, rescued the elderly woman who was unconscious on the ground.

The amputation

Transported to the hospital in Padua by 118 personnel, following the serious injuries she suffered the amputation of her entire right upper limb and left forearm. The woman was hospitalized with a reserved prognosis, but her life is not in danger.

As local newspapers report, the woman was alone in the house, where she lives with her daughter and grandchildren, she was cleaning the kitchen floor when the postman rang the doorbell: the old woman apparently fell to the floor to answer it, it is not clear whether by tripping over the water bucket or right over one of the animals. The dogs (Amstaff and American Bully breeds) pounced on the woman, on her arms in particular. The postwoman heard the commotion from outside and called the police, who managed to enter the house through a window.

The daughter: “They were always good”

The dogs were subjected to behavioral observation by the local health authority veterinarian. A few hours earlier on an online sales site, the dog Kira (a female amstaff), believed to be the main culprit of the attack, had appeared in a virtual shop window to be given as a gift. The announcement was placed by the victim’s daughter, who lives with her and who declared to the newspaper Corriere delle Alpi: “Our dogs have always been good, never aggressive, it’s the first time something like this has happened. Kira is the most restless. I believe you will no longer be able to stay with us after today.”
