Captain Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin turned out to be only the third player in league history to become a leader in goals for a season at the age of 34 or more.
Before him, it was possible to do Bill Cook (season 1932/1933, 37 years old, 28 goals in 48 matches) and Gordy Howe (1962/1963, 35 years old, 38 goals in 70 matches). For the Russian, this “Maurice Richard Trophy” became the ninth in his career. Thus, Ovechkin consolidated leadership in the seasons in which he won the sniper race.
