ÖSV plans for home races with several variants

Due to the uncertainty in which form and in which setting its Alpine World Cup home races for the next season will be possible, the Austrian Ski Association is planning several options. “Since it cannot be said at the moment whether and under what conditions events can take place, at least two variants are always considered,” said the ÖSV on Saturday.

For the season start in Sölden, which is scheduled for the end of October, for example, bringing the women’s race forward to Friday two days ahead of the men is planned. This could prevent a greater accumulation of active people, trainers and supervisors with regard to possible corona dangers, the association said after the presidents’ conference in Pörtschach.

Association President Peter Schröcksnadel naturally hopes to hold all races. “Sport is our lifeline and that of the active, we have to make sure that we can carry out all of our events if possible, even if we cannot allow spectators, because only then can we create the necessary conditions for the active,” said the 78-year-old.

A decision by the FIS board was expected on July 2 regarding the postponement of the 2021 Alpine World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo requested by the Italian organizer.
