OSTUNI (Brindisi). A 46-year-old woman was killed at home in Ostuni by a pistol shot that first wounded her in the arm and then shot in the chest. Her husband, Francesco Semerano, a 56-year-old businessman, is in custody: he told the police that he shot her by mistake while cleaning the weapon and that he injured his hand.
The events took place in a villa in the Malandrino district, on the outskirts of the White City, around 11 pm. The police squad of the Brindisi police station and the police officers of the police station intervened on the spot. The attorney appointed by the prosecutor performed a first external inspection. The findings are in progress. The cops are checking on the man-made story.
The victim was called Giovanna De Pasquale. The man, Francesco Semeraro is accused of manslaughter. Investigators said he injured his wife while handling the gun to clean her, but the dynamics of what happened is still to be ascertained.
On the body of the victim, the public prosecutor Giovanni Marino arranged for an autopsy. The weapon was found to be legally detained, unlike what the police initially suggested. There were other people in the villa at the time of the incident. Around the house there were moments of nervousness when journalists arrived, one of whom, Marcello Orlandini, was attacked and taken to hospital. “I filed a complaint with the police station for what happened, also because public opinion and politics have to understand what risks we face in doing this job,” he said.
