Orange-haired woman knocks on NYC cab window then flees with iPhone and cash

Police in New York City are on the hunt for a woman with bright orange hair who smashed the window of a yellow cab with a cinder block to steal a iPhone and $40 cash.

The brazen broad daylight robbery happened Thursday, in midtown Manhattan.

The yellow cab driver had parked his car on West 37th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues, and left it to go to the bathroom.

Security camera footage showed the woman approaching the car carrying the cinder block.

She then fled.

The theft comes amid a dangerous crime spree in the once-safe city.

In February, the number of incidents increased by 60% compared to the same period last year.

The city’s latest crime figures show there were 9,138 incidents last month, up from 5,759 in February 2021 – with double-digit increases in nearly every major category.

There were 32 murders in February, three more than the same month last year.

Several other categories saw spikes, including auto theft, which soared nearly 105%; robbery, which jumped almost 80% over the previous year; robberies, which jumped 56%; a 44% increase in burglaries and a 22% increase in assaults.

Rapes also increased by 35%.

Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday that soaring crime in New York City has made the Big Apple a “laughing stock” in need of a “wartime general” to tackle the current problem.

Adams, speaking at the NYPD Holy Name Society’s annual Communion Mass and Breakfast, condemned the lawlessness across the city.

He blamed petty crime and homelessness as contributing factors to the widespread “dysfunction”.

“It’s all happening in New York City,” Adams said.

“The most important city in the world has become the laughingstock of the world.

“And the dysfunction of our city has reverberated throughout the country.”
