OPPO Develops a New Periscope Camera that Can Adjust Zoom Levels

Periscope cameras are currently trending on flagship smartphones. The camera is used to support magnification (zoom) optics many times over.

Apparently, smartphone manufacturers are not satisfied with the current periscope cameras. Periscope cameras are usually “fixed” or only have one focal length.

Zoom further can be done, but only with digital zoom which reduces image quality. Unlike the case with the new periscope camera technology being developed by OPPO.

This camera has a lens with a variable focal length, aka it can change levels zoom (focal length) from 85 mm (full frame equivalent) to 135 mm (full frame equivalent) aka from 3x zoom to 5x zoom).

Change rate zoom it is zoom optics so as not to reduce image quality like zoom digital.

The aperture is also variable, changing from f / 3.3 at 85mm to f / 4.4 at 135mm.

Thus, the periscope camera becomes more flexible and can accommodate more shooting needs.

Because, optical numbers zoom the periscope camera which has been fixed at 5x range sometimes feels too far for some types of objects.

Besides the mechanism zoom optics which involves physically moving the elements of the lens, a homemade telescope camera OPPO also equipped with autofocus and optical image stabilizer.

Besides the lens with zoom variable, the new periscope camera from OPPO also equipped with a new type of sensor with a resolution of 32 MP.

With image stacking technology, this sensor is said to be able to boost levels zoom further up to the range of 280 mm.

Although it seems promising, as compiled by GSM Arena, Oppo hasn’t revealed which phone will be the first product with the new periscope camera.

Rumors are circulating mentioning a new periscope camera OPPO will make its first appearance at Reno 10x, which appeared on the Chinese communications authority’s certification site, TENAA, last month.
