“OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App for iPhone Users with Voice Input & Synced Chat History”

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—OpenAI has officially launched the application ChatGPT standalone for iPhone users aka iOS. This app is free to download and use.

This release makes it easier for users to chat with bots on the go and also incorporates several other features.

For example, the app supports voice input supported by the open source Whisper voice recognition model. It also syncs your chat history from the ChatGPT web version and other devices with your logged in account.

Of course, reported from GSMArenaOn Sunday (21/5/2023), ChatGPT Plus subscribers get access to an upgraded version of GPT-4, early access to new features that may be coming in the future, and faster response times.

Currently, iOS users can download the app from the App Store in the United States (US) but other countries will also get it soon. The same goes for Android users.

Previously, Tesla and Twitter owner Elon Musk was unhappy with the latest advances in generative AI. Musk criticized ChatGPT creator OpenAI for turning from a for-profit to a for-profit enterprise.

Musk also mentioned Microsoft, which has invested billions of dollars into OpenAI, has more control than OpenAI leadership. However, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted that Musk’s claims were factually wrong.

During an interview with CNBC, Musk stated that the creators of ChatGPT OpenAI exist because of him. The AI research firm was founded in 2015 as a non-profit organization, but two executives later formed a “capped-profit” entity called OpenAI LP.

In 2015, OpenAI changed its status to a “capped-profit” company. This means returns for both investors and employees will be limited to raising capital for the development of OpenAI.

Musk stated that he invested around $50 million into the company during its year of formation and played a key role in recruiting. Additionally, Musk revealed the name “OpenAI” was suggested by him.

“What exactly is the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft? I’m afraid Microsoft is making it more controllable. As part of Microsoft’s investment, they own rights to all the software, all model weights and everything,” Musk said as quoted from the page India TodayThursday (18/5/2023).

After the Musk interview, Nadella said these claims were factually wrong. The Microsoft CEO added that he had great respect for Musk, but that the Tesla owner was wrong.

“OpenAI is very grounded in its mission to be controlled by a non-profit board. We have a non-controlling interest in it. We have a great commercial partnership in it,” said Nadella.
