Where and when is it played?

The ATP Cup 2021 will take place from February 2nd to 6th in Melbourne Park in Australia, where the first Grand Slam tournament of the year will also take place from February 8th. The games will be played in the Rod Laver Arena and the John Cain Arena. There are group games until Thursday (February 4th) before the hot phase begins with the semi-finals on Friday and the big final on Saturday.

Due to the corona pandemic, only 12 nations will compete this year instead of 24. These are divided into four groups of three countries each, four players per team are nominated. An encounter consists of two singles and one double. The four group winners qualify for the semi-finals.

1️⃣ The top-ranked player in the team determines the national captain. The only condition: the person must work as a player, trainer or representative in the ATP. So it happens that, for example, the German team will no longer be coached by Boris Becker and Michael Kohlmann this year – because Alexander Zverev has appointed brother Mischa.

2️⃣ The permitted on-court coaching is also extraordinary. You can also look after the player on the pitch during the game and provide them with tips – this applies not only to the intended coach, but to all team members.
