Sony has provided all the details on the backward compatibility of PS5 through a page on the official PlayStation Support site.
The Japanese house has made it clear that «the overwhelming majority of the 4000+ PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles ».
The only exception is 10 titles:
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Joe’s Diner
It is unclear why these titles are excluded from compatibility with PlayStation 5, but the list, if nothing else, does not include triple-A or highly successful minor productions.
Su PlayStation Store, that is about to renew itself, these games will be highlighted as “Playable on: PS4 only”.
Some games will take advantage of the mode Game Boost of PS5, to have a higher or more stable frame rate.
Sony states that «some features that were available on PS4 may not be available on PS5. In addition, some PS4 games may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior when run on PS5 ».
The Japanese house also asks you to try the games for “See if you are happy with the gaming experience” on PS5 before buy add-ons for PS4 titles.
PS VR games will be supported provided of course you have a PlayStation VR headset, a PS Camera and a PS Camera adapter.
Backward compatibility is confirmed after previous statements from Japan, covers both download and disk copies.
Digital games will be conveniently recoverable in your library, where physicists will require to keep the disc always inserted in the console. An update may be required.
Upgrades are planned when developers and publishers want to apply: they may be free, may require payment or be available for a limited time. In these cases an Internet connection is required.
The DualShock 4 and PS4 controllers third-party (both recommended over DualSense for PS VR games) will work on PlayStation 5 but only on native PS4 games.
In this case, the Share button it cannot be used but you will need to press the Create button on the DualSense to take pictures and video on PlayStation 5. The Create button it enjoys the same shortcuts as the DualShock 4 for screenshots and clips.
Steering wheels, arcade sticks and flight sticks will be fully inherited from PS4 to PS5, but will only work on supported PS4 games.
Tornei, In-Game Live e l’app PS4 Second Screen they are not compatible with PS5, which instead will automatically activate HDR on all titles of the current generation (it will be deactivated).
La camera HD of the new console will not be compatible with PS4 titles, while Platinum and Gold Wireless headphones they will work on both platforms.
