There were at least three eyewitnesses at the time of the terrible incident, two men driving directly behind the crashed “Škodas” and a gentleman watching the powerful shocks in the light pole from the sidewalk.

People say that initially the car was driving in the second lane towards the center of the Island Bridge and there was no indication that a serious accident would happen immediately. About in the middle of the bridge, in Lucavsala, the driver decided to change to the right lane, turned the corner and, without slowing down, shook the pole.

An eyewitness to the accident, Oleg, points out that in his understanding, one of the drivers suddenly lost consciousness and simply drove off the road, hitting a pole because there were no obstacles on the road.

Everyone in the area rushed to call the emergency services immediately after the collision and report the incident. Witnesses say that at first it was even difficult to understand how many people are in a messed-up car cabin.

“The injuries are. One flew in the windshield with his face, his head. The other is lying in the back seat. He moves, but can’t understand how serious the injuries were to him. (..) In addition to the firefighters, two traffic police crews were on duty at the scene, who had to regulate heavy traffic on the bridge. There was no shortage of work for doctors either. There were three crews and also one special crew, which usually only gets involved in severe cases. The victims are known to be in critical condition in a medical institution.

“Three men were seriously injured in the accident. These include fractures, head injuries and a number of other serious injuries. All three men were taken to hospital, in a serious condition, but consciously,” the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) said.

Carelessness at the wheel, severe fatigue or some health problems – the reasons for the driver’s actions are now explained by the police. Most likely, the investigators will be able to draw conclusions only after talking to the driver himself, but given his state of health, this is not possible at the moment.
