One of the goals in the media guidelines is a more Latvian media environment

She reminded that the media guidelines are a policy planning document, which will be accompanied by an action plan, which could be submitted for public consultation in the summer. She explained that the media guidelines define the goals to be achieved, as well as the basic principles of what the media environment should be.

Logina emphasized that the media environment should be safe, high-quality, strong and independent.

One of the goals set in the media guidelines is a more Latvian media environment. She pointed out that a more Latvian media environment can be promoted in various ways, for example, by applying quotas for Latvian music, promoting more advertisements in the Latvian language and in other ways.

She explained that when creating the media guidelines, consultations were held with media representatives, the Public Electronic Media Council (SEPLP), the National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) and other stakeholders.

The public consultation will take place on the Legal Acts Portal (TAP). Logina admitted that after the public consultation, if reasoned objections are received, some changes could be made in the guidelines.

When developing the guidelines, various international events and the development of information technology were taken into account, Logina added.

At the beginning of March, it was reported that the Ministry of Culture (MoC) continues work on the development of media guidelines, which will define greater editorial responsibility and the ability to professionally evaluate editorial decisions, or self-regulation.
